Nice surprise!

That was a nice surprise yesterday in the office:
as we move inside the office, everybody checked the boxes and shelves.
They found a new year present of a person who left the office, and decided to give it to me)).

Quite sweet, don't you think:

LOTO and Luck!

I ve never played in Loto or lottery in Russia.
But here I hear more nad more that many people do it.

And friends also bought for our wedding a ticket in lottery as a present.
It said we could win 57 millions CHF, that would be great), but too good).
We won only 5 chf. Hehe.

But, I actually think to start buying it every month or every 2 month.

You never know...))

My German

Here i wanted to share with you my story of getting close to the local life, and particulary in language. I truly and honestly believe that if you move to other country, doesn't matter for studing or living, it is your respect for the country and people to get into their life, language, life style. Well, at least try)). That is why I don't understand people who move and then living in  a group of the same people, use only their language and don't want to learn or take something from the place they moved to.

Finally, my first cake!

So, today i finally came home after work:
totally sweat, with new mixer and scales (to weight myself after cake, probably))).
No tram going to our direction, i was going by foot, it's like on the war!!
Drums, people, chaotic, kids, shouts!!!AAAAAAAAAAA!

But, let's talk about pleasant stuff- it took about 2 hours totally:

and here is the result:

 ММММММММММММММММММММММ!

Retro equipment!

So, yesterday - having day off and listening to Fastnacht music I ve decided to make a cake!
Yes, a cake! First in my life, with self made everything!)

Then I ve found out that I do not have the right form for making it.
I bought it and some products.

And theeeeeeeeeeeen i ve got the veeery retro thing - my mom's mixer!
I think no one, really no one already has it!

The production year is 88!!!!! it costed 35 rubles! Huge sum in that time!
And my mom gave me as you know they do not like to throw anything away.
So I put it in the plug and tried for a sec - worked! Good!
Put away and started with the products.

Then mixer made some strange noises and there was a smoke out of it!!!!!!!!
I thought it out to the balcony being afraid it will blow up!

So, there was no chance for a cake this day anyway!
Today, I ll took a chance to buy a new mixer and finally make a cake!))))

Basel Fastnacht!

Oh, these 3 days!!

Drive license' change - part 1

Another fun moment in my life: i need to change the drive license.
To do that i ve already made an eyes test. It was quite fun as it was my first test in Latin!)
then, it occurred that of course i need to translate my drive license into  other language/ EN, DE, FR, but it impossible to go to authorities without translation from Russian)...
It is way without end, i do translations forward and back)))...
Attention- the little card of drive license will be translated in 12-14 days!!!
I can imagine what people in Moscow would say for such time terms!))

And now I need to take first aid courses to get the certificate, it is obligatory.
Hope to make it this weekend. Let's see - it is also in German :)

Cooking

Moving in Basel and having a lot of free time and hungry husband in the evenings opened in me some cooking talents). Actually it became fun for me to cook, cause: 1. there is now someone to cook for, 2. i am quite good in it. Actually my husband also cooks, but it is something i was raised with that I enjoy to cook for my man).

Before in Moscow, my fridge had usually cheese, milk, maybe yogurt... there were some sweets and coffee, water and fruits. I was cooking once a week just for myself. all other evenings i ate either in cafe or at the friends' or at home but just fruits. When i moved i was face to face with food cult)), you meet friends-you got to eat, you meet parents- you got to eat, you go outside-you go for the picnic. People like to eat, they like  to cook, they share the recipes, they compete! And portions here are almost the same as in Germany.)

So, what were the best moments f my cooking summer:

Tyortiy- the cookies, which are quite famous among those who was a my mom's place))

Meatballs with puree

Nice breakfast with rice porridge, toasts with basil and fruits
Pasta with mushrooms and zucchini
So, there are some troubles with translation - in Russian this is Жульен with mushrooms and chicken.
But the translator had other ideas)):

Next- some of sweets:

Here is one of the brunches we did for friends:

And of course, here is our Christmas meat my L. cooked:

Recently, i ve found the link
Great Food pics
and pics there motivate to cook all day long)).

Now, i am getting a master of bouillon, as we both sick at home,
but i will share some new things soon)).

Dog question

Everybody likes dogs. But we need to remember that it is not a toy, and it is a big step to take a dog.
It's not for 1 year or 2, or a toy for a kid or whatever.
When i was kid all our surrounding had dogs, now in Russia they generally take less dogs, and it is either little ones (glamour bla bla) or prestige rare types.
Though there are less dogs, there is still shit question every spring in Russia. it is like you walk through the mine field.

Recently i saw a great video. Here it is (sorry, it's in Russian):
dog topic

When we took our dog, my mom and me took kilos of books, read everything about a dog type we wanted, we went for a training, we were feeding by clocks, do many rules to make a good, calm, smart, ruled, healthy dog.

According this video, there are no more official places to train a dog. and no one asks to do that. it would be good if there will be some vaccines. And of course there is no any punishment if dog would do any harm to anything or anybody.

HERE, before you take a dog, you need to make a test that you are an normal person to take a dog!! I think at least 30% of people in Russia who have dogs would fail! Then you need to sign that you are responsible for EVERYTHING that your dog makes. You promise officially to train it - there are obligatory courses for about 3 months or so. Then you need to do all medicine things for it's health.
Places where you can go with a dog without line can be counted in 1 hand i think. almost everywhere it is forbidden.

And of course here it is silent rule: you DO take ur dog's shit away! almost every second street has box with packages for it with optimistic and encouraging words to do it!!!

and though i loooooooooove dogs and really want one, i am not sure that:

1. I ll be able to spend so much time for it
2. connect and love it so much and see how it will die, saw it once already...

but will see...

Lately seen movies/Waiting for

So:

1. Silent hill 2 - well, first part is better, but this one is also quite scary) last several years i watch such movies only in daylight)). Do care about my nervs.

3. Light comedy about food- easy weekend movie

4. Super short-cut, sweet and nice made- Paper man

6. Upside down - good, but the in the end they cut the idea

 1. Warm bodies- should be funny comedy (but yes, the other film about zombies)

2. The heat - should be also great light comedy (love both actresses, so..)

Top 5 of January 2013

1. Movie of the month

    "Now is good"

2. Video of the month

So many dumb ways to die

3. Action of the month

   Real job started

4. News of the month

    L. got promoted

5. Happening of the month:

      My first salary!

Outside the city

That is so nice to have a possibility to  go outside the city in 10-15 minutes driving.
ZZZZZ and you are somewhere in the fields, forest or mountain. Birds, sheeps, air!

Rhein

It is sooooo cool to have a river in the city!
I know that in Moscow we have Moscow river, and Tver has Volga and Tverza.
BUT the question is: is it possible to swim there??!!
NO!

Now there is Rhein! Want to swim before job or between business meetings?
Just go to Rhein, put all things in the special bag, jump and enjoy!
It is even not needed to swim, you can just float (the river is very fast)!
When you want you can turn to the shore, take a shower, dress up again and go further or sit in one of the open cafes for a drink and talk....aaaaaaaaaaaah!

Oh, it is possible to go outside the city and also enjoy Rhein, but with rocks and little waterfalls.
Have  picnic, read, play, sleep....meet friends there...

Want summer again!

Snow sports

I think some of my friends would kill for such possibility: to have mountains just near by!
So i am kind of freak)): i do live in Ch and do not ski neither snowboard!
It is like to live in Spain and don't get tanned))

But I can do snowmans and go hiking, maximum  - slating!)) Or just going into spa),
Will do all of that- i promise!
And already soon- Beginning of March- Arosa!)))

Things i miss

Sometimes L. asks what i miss (in Moscow or previous life).

I miss my job. It was a great job, with wide responsibilities, great colleagues, nice boss, good conditions. I miss my friends, though we saw each other not so often in Moscow, we could do it when we wanted, now it is kind of far)). Of course there is still Skype and e-mail and phone, but it is different. I miss a bit the feeling of known situations, places and routes, let's say. What and where and when.... I am getting more and more comfortable here and sometimes surprise myself with a thought that i am only 7th month here, it feels sometimes like 2 years. In Moscow it took me 2-3 years to feel comfortable. I think I become more and more easy "relocating" kind of person. But i think we will not know it by changing again/or soon, as I am going to stay here for looooooooooong time:).

I miss my parents of course, but we also saw each other not often when I was in Moscow, and skype is there, so almost nothing changed.
I miss food, cafes and restaurants, i miss a bit flat long distances, as when we drive here, i am green-blue in car sick, cause of mountains roads and turns.
I miss my sport places and instructors, at the end you go not for a specific place, but for the trainer.
I miss a bit rush tempo of Moscow, when everything is fast and urgent, and everybody is running, but I think when i ll come there in May i will be already stressed by that)).

Sometimes i am tired to speak english and german, and i would really like to speak russian all the day. As i speak  3 languages at work, so when i am tired in the evening i can start the phrase with english, then a couple of words go in german, and in the end russian))... happens...

I miss calling to some friends late in the evening when i need to talk, or early in the morning to plan the day! (Yes, Kate, i am talking about you)). I generally at the moment do not have friends i can just call and say - Hi, let's go out! It is more planned here and people are busy to meet spontaneously  you need to call and plan at least for the next week. UF!

I am trying to make new friends, but with age it is more difficult, and it is a different level of friendship anyway. Sometimes I stop myself, cause i am afraid people will see me as maniac in friends' making. I don't want it to sound like: pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, be my frieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeend!)))

What can be done in 6 months!

What a person can do in 6 month? what usually person does in his/her whole life?

Mango Mantel

I was "counted"))

it is kind of funny feeling, like in russian cartoon: they counted us!
In Russia you need to prove everywhere that you exist and you need to have a lot of docs to do it.
Like, you go to a hospital or some administrative services, and they need to check and to search if you are in their registration.

Here you are once in the list, and then your info is everywhere! Going to do an abo for transport? you are in the system already with all the data. Calling to check how to change ur drive licence? you are already in the base and they can tell you what do you need to do, giving the answer based on ur information. Different- yes, convenient- yes, feeling of a Big brother watching-yes!))

Compliments at work!

I don't know if will get used to the manner of communication at work.
They do not say compliments or saying that you are goodlooking today. Not men or women.
There is only 1 person who says something i used too.
Yes, we-russian women dress at work to feel good, beautiful and for us it is NOT insulting if
someone mention it! It is a compliment! We L-I-K-E it! (of course in normal way of saying). I have a good mood all the day if I hear it!
And yes i share snacks and chokos with people. One of them said first time i did it: "Why?" Well, because it is usuall for me to do that! We share our news, food and make compliments. We are "relationship" workers. All business in Russia is based on relationship. It is normal: you do something, I do something. You have a good relations-you have a good business.
